Thurman of XPatriated Texan has announced that the first Progressive Faith Blog Convention, which he and many others have been planning for months, is now a reality. It’s going to be at the Montclaire State University Convention Center from Friday July 14 through Sunday July 16.

Please come! It’s geared toward the (suprisingly) large number of bloggers who are religious and politically progressive - in other words, those of us on the Religious Left. We’ll have a chance to network, talk politics, learn about our respective religious traditions and, of course (always a favorite at blogging conventions), find out about cool new blogging stuff like podcasting and AJAX. Best of all, it’s free!

You don’t need to have a blog to attend - I think anyone who’s interested in the intersection of religion and progressive politics, or in the internet as a tool for activism, will enjoy the conference…

Planning is still underway. It’s being done very democratically - input is welcome. Velveteen Rabbi is hosting an open discussion of possible speakers and events.

She’s also hosting the latest Progressive Faith Blogs Carnival - check it out to get a feeling for what we’re all writing about. The Carnival is hosted by a different blog each week. Archives of past Carnivals are here.

Who is “we”? Lots of bloggers have already joined the Progressive Faith Blog group and signed on for the conference. Scroll down a bit - there’s a pretty complete list on my sidebar (if your blog ought be on there and isn’t, please let me know in the comments section. One more thing - if you want to display the list of progressive faith bloggers on your own site, the necessary javascript is attached to this post. Just download the attachment, copy and paste into your sidebar or wherever you want to display it on your site. It should display a list exactly like the one on my sidebar.
